Questions and Answers About Michael Karl McNeil
I am Michael Karl McNeil. These are the questions I am asked most often, each answered once.
How long were you in the fire service?
Twenty-five years. I started as a fire cadet in 1989.
What does “former Fire Battalion Chief” mean?
That I held the rank of Fire Battalion Chief, in federal fire prevention, and no longer serve. It was my last rank.
Did you fight fire, or only inspect?
Both. Prevention was my specialty and my rank, but the letters from 2000 and 2002 describe station and fireground work, and my three ratings, from 2000, 2003 and 2007, are all from incident assignments. They are on the Fieldwork page.
Which states did you work in?
California, and on federal assignment in numerous other states, mostly Western. My consulting practice covers thirteen Western states today.
Are you a fire investigator?
No. I do not offer origin-and-cause investigation and it is no part of my practice.
What are REP, RIH, EPP and QSD?
Registered Environmental Professional, Registered Industrial Hygienist, Emergency Planning Professional and Qualified SWPPP Developer. Dates and numbers are on the Registrations page.
Why do you use initials for the people you quote?
The letters are theirs. I publish what they wrote and keep their names and contact details for anyone with a reason to ask.
Why are there no city or station names here?
I give the kind of agency and my rank. The certificates, letters and rating forms show the rest, and I keep the originals.
Is every Michael McNeil online the same person?
No. It is a common name, and other men who carry it have also been firefighters in California. I am Michael Karl McNeil of San Gabriel: federal fire prevention, then industrial hygiene. A page that describes someone else’s history is about someone else.
My own records show the name four ways: Michael Karl McNeil, Michael K. McNeil, Michael McNeil and Mike McNeil.
How can I check what this site says?
Start with the numbers. The registrant numbers and certificate numbers are printed on the Registrations page, the Exposure Decision Analysis registration is listed by AIHA Registry Programs, and the Cal/OSHA Training Academy certificate has a public verification page. For the letters, awards and ratings, write or call and I will produce the original.
